Emigration - Moving away from a country

Moving away from a country is a process with two distinct phases:

1.   Untangling your affairs in your old country.

This will involve a huge range of tasks from selling your home or your business to settling your tax debts and arranging for the transfer of any necessary funds to your bank in your new home country.

What will be required will depend entirely upon your personal circumstances.

Most of the work can be done by you yourself as you will probably be familiar with the processes involved. It might, however, be a good idea to discuss the position generally with your lawyer and tax advisor as you may have several options as to how to proceed and the choice you make can have major tax and other consequences for you.

2.   Arranging your affairs in your new country.

See the immigration page for the country in question for information as to some of the issues involved.
